Shanghai, the largest industrial city in China, has a population of 18.7 millions, including 2 million floating population.

Once a seaside fishing village, Shanghai is to-day a multi-cultural metropolis, with both modern and traditional features.

Most people visit Shanghai for 3 reasons: business, sightseeing and shopping.

Shanghai hotel accomodation is in abundance due to aggressive hotel expansion program. There is therefore a wide range of hotel accomodation, from budget to luxury to suit everyone need.

For example you may find hotel prices as follows:
2 star from US$20 to $50.
3 star from US$50 to $75.
4 star from US$75 to $100.
5 star from US$100 to $250.

Compare to New York or London hotels rate, Shanghai rate is way a bargain for comparable class of hotel.

The 4 and 5 star International Brand Hotels are comparable to any hotel of similar class in North America in all aspects of service. Staff are well trained and speak enough English to make your stay comfortable and hassle free. Hotel guests are split 50 percent Chinese and 50 percent Westerners. Guests have a choice of English or Chinese breakfast.

There is also the 4 and 5 star Chinese hotels run by local Management. Here too the service and attention is as good as the International brand hotel.

The 2 and 3 star Chinese hotels mainly cater to the Chinese travellers. In recent years though you can see more western guests in this class of hotel. Hotel maintenance is not a priority in the 2 and 3 star Chinese hotels, and you may find a few things not working or have fallen off the wall.

Hotel staff level of English is very low, just enough for you to check in and out. Obviously breakfast is mainly Chinese but you will find tea or coffee and toast available.

Almost every hotel in Shangai has its own website where you can make enquiry and book online.

Shanghai is a shopping paradise and you can find everything at Nanjing Road, Huai Hai Road and Sichuan North Road. Shanghai city never sleeps.

Needless to say Shanghai offers a wide variety of fine cuisine to delight every taste. From North China dishes to Southern China dishes to international gourmet.
